The Reproductive System
Functions
The Reproductive System is meant to keep the human species continuing on by creating new life. Without the ability to reproduce, the species will die. In order to reproduce, the sperm from the male has to fertilize the egg from the female. Once the egg is fertilized, it grows inside the womb inside the female into an infant for about 9 months until she gives birth.
The Main Parts
The organs of the Reproductive System are listed above and include ovaries and ova (female) and testes and sperm (male).
Working With Other Body Systems
To keep our body (and our species) healthy and alive, our body systems of different functions work together. The Endocrine System works with the Reproductive by supplying hormones that prepare and ready the body for the act of reproduction. The Nervous System also works with the Reproductive by sending nerves to order the gamete (sperm and egg) when to be released.
Medical Conditions
Some medical disorders found in the Reproductive System are cancers to multiple organs. In females, there can be breast, uterus, ovaries, and cervix cancer, while in males, there can be prostate, testicular, and penile cancer.
Both genders can also develop STDs, which include herpes, gonorrhea, and HIV.
